Welcome to a magical underwater world at the newly transformed first floor of this children’s hospital. This project has turned the hospital into a whimsical and friendly space that aims to uplift the spirits of young patients and their families. Located on the east coast, local marine life, including puffins, tuna fish, and seals, are artistically incorporated into the design, fostering a sense of connection to the hospital’s coastal location.
As you stroll through the hallways, you’ll find yourself surrounded by the mesmerizing beauty of the ocean, with one corridor adorned with gracefully floating jellyfish and another featuring sculpted manta rays gliding through an imaginary sea. The seating area is a coral haven, with benches that mimic the vibrant and intricate structures found in the ocean. Playful characters, like a pair of puffins, emerge from the ceiling, adding a touch of whimsy to the surroundings.
The pièce de résistance of this aquatic wonderland is the towering ship’s mast in the foyer. IDS added a stunning sculpture of a mother and baby whale gracefully swirling around the mast. To complete the transformation, beautiful murals adorn the walls, turning what was once a clinical environment into a serene oasis.
This hospital transformation not only brings aesthetic delight but also creates a soothing and comforting atmosphere, offering a much-needed escape for the hospital’s young residents and their families.
