Welcome to a magical underwater world on the newly transformed first floor of this children’s hospital. This renovation has turned the space into a whimsical and uplifting environment designed to bring comfort and joy to young patients and their families. Drawing inspiration from the hospital’s coastal location, local marine life, including puffins, tuna, and seals, has been artistically incorporated throughout the design.

Hallways
Corridors immerse visitors in the beauty of the ocean. One features a glowing school of jellyfish drifting overhead, while another showcases sculpted manta rays gliding gracefully through an imagined sea. -
Seating Area
Benches are shaped like coral structures, creating a colorful undersea haven where families can gather. Playful puffins emerge from the ceiling, bringing an extra touch of character and delight. -
Foyer Feature
At the heart of the design, a towering ship’s mast rises dramatically in the foyer. Wrapping around it, a mother and baby whale sculpture swim together in a graceful spiral. Silhouette ocean murals complete the aquatic theme, transforming what was once a clinical environment into a serene and welcoming ocean escape.
The second floor of this children’s hospital takes families on a journey above the waves—onto rocky beaches, colorful seaside villages, and deep into woodland forests.
Three key waiting areas have been fully transformed: the dental reception area, the surgery waiting area, and the diagnostic waiting area. Each space carries its own regional theme, filled with playful details that bring joy and comfort to young patients and their families.

Dental Reception Area
Puffins soar overhead and dive alongside otters. The reception desk is wrapped in ocean murals, complete with seals, fish, and starfish resting on rockwork. Overhead, sculpted puffins in flight add a dynamic and welcoming energy. -
Surgery Waiting Area
Bright murals capture the famously colorful houses of Nova Scotia, perched on seaside cliffs. A friendly seal photo op character sits atop a lobster trap beside a bench, greeting families with a smile. Overhead, 3D seabirds fly, tying the maritime story together. -
Diagnostic Waiting Area
This space features the woodland forests of Eastern Canada. A curious black bear sculpture clutches an Atlantic salmon in his mouth, surrounded by lush forest murals featuring lakes, eagles, and other local wildlife. The design encourages a sense of calm.
Every element, from the sculpted animals to the bold murals, celebrates the East Coast environment and creates an immersive, comforting experience for patients of all ages.
